Motor Vehicle Pursuit

Post Date:03/08/2018 8:19 AM

On March 7, 2018 at approximately 9:59 pm officers of the Grand Forks Police Department were investigating a domestic violence situation and were actively searching for 51 year old Grand Forks resident Dana DECOTEAU.  DECOTEAU was wanted for questioning regarding the domestic violence call.  Officers of the University of North Dakota Police Department were in the area and spotted DECOTEAU’S vehicle, a 1989 Chevrolet pickup in the 3600 block of 13th Ave N.  This information was passed on to Grand Forks Police Department officers who located DECOTEAU and his vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle.

DECOTEAU refused to stop for officers and attempted to flee in the vehicle by driving north on Stanford Road and then west on Gateway Drive.  In order to stop the pursuit before it reached high speeds officers utilized a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver and forced DECOTEAU and his vehicle to stop in the 3600 block of Gateway Drive.  DECOTEAU was taken into custody and has preliminarily been charged with Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving Under Suspension.  The initial domestic violence situation for which DECOTEAU was wanted for questioning remains under investigation.

The Grand Forks Police Department was assisted during this investigation by the University of North Dakota Police Department.
