Welcoming Community Roadmap Public Comments Sought

Post Date:09/12/2018

Grand Forks, ND – The Welcoming Community Roadmap steering committee, operating with the city of Grand Forks’ Immigrant Integration Initiative (GFIII), has released a set of draft recommendations on how to strengthen the ways Grand Forks welcomes new residents. The recommendations come after several data-gathering efforts of research, surveys and focus groups and a robust development of recommendations that included nearly 70 community members. The recommendations can be found at and the public comment period will be open until September 24.

“We are so inspired by all the energy community members have put into this effort so far and grateful for the commitment everyone seems to have to ensure Grand Forks is the most welcoming community possible,” said Mayor Michael Brown.

“The Welcoming Community Roadmap project brings together existing welcoming efforts, energizes new activity, and inspires the challenge that Grand Forks become known as the best place not just to be from, but to move to,” said Robin David, GFIII chair.

The Welcoming Community Roadmap effort is led by the Grand Forks Immigrant Integration Initiative (GFIII) and supported with technical assistance from the Gateways 4 Growth program by New American Economy. Despite the GFIII’s focus on immigrant and refugee integration, the objective of the Roadmap project is to find ways to welcome all new residents, including but not limited to those from foreign countries, and better integrate them as part of the community.

“Issues such as transportation, housing and making connections certainly can be challenging for people from other countries but we know they also can be a challenge for a U.S.-born family relocating for a job or a new airman to the Grand Forks Air Force base,” said Robin David, GFIII Chair. “The recommendations are designed to benefit all newcomers.”

The recommendations and feedback forms can be found on the Welcoming Community Roadmap webpage on .
