 | Don Shields
Don Shields is a board certified healthcare executive and he is the Director of the Grand Forks Public Health Department. The department provides a full range of public health services to include disaster support and recovery services, disease control, environmental health, family health, health promotion, and wellness programs for the residents of the City and County of Grand Forks.
Don is successful at obtaining grants and is responsible for developing policy, building coalitions, and leading public health. The staff of 65 full and part-time professionals includes environmental health, nurses, dietitians, mosquito control staff, and administrative specialists. Don has served the healthcare field since 1978.
Prior to his appointment as director of the Grand Forks health department in 1994, he served for 20 years in the United States Air Force. His experiences include: Clinic Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Information Systems Officer (CIO), Financial Manager (CFO), Hospital Administrator, Managed Care, and Public Health professional.
