P.A.S.T. - Peer Assistance Support Team

The occupation of law enforcement is stressful. The suicide rate for Law Enforcement ranks third compared with all other occupations. Law Enforcement routinely ranks high in other categories such as divorce rate, alcoholism, and heart related disease. Like the flow of water which erodes the earth, crisis events and cumulative stress can erode an employee’s performance and coping skills.

In support of its employees, the Grand Forks Police Department has recently formed a team of officers and Mental Health Professionals to assist department employees and their immediate families. This new team is called the Peer Assistance Support Team or P.A.S.T.

P.A.S.T. members are trained to  provide information, training, referrals and support in regards to stress awareness and mitigation, crisis intervention and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). P.A.S.T. members are also able to provide one-on-one support, critical incident defusings, debriefings, crisis management briefings and demobilizations.

For further information or to access P.A.S.T. contact P.A.S.T. Coordinator Lt. Mike Ferguson - 701-787-8016,
