News Release

Grand Forks, ND – Grand Forks Mayor Michael R. Brown and East Grand Forks Mayor Lynn Stauss have issued the following statement.

“Our permanent flood protection system is in place and is working properly due to the excellent work by city crews in both Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.

We ask that residents use caution when around the flood protection as our overall goal throughout this spring flood fight is public safety.

We recognize one inconvenience will be the bridge closures expected. It will take longer to get back and forth between the two cities and we ask motorists to be patient during their commute and give themselves plenty of time to reach their destination. We also ask that residents respect the people working in these areas and try to minimize unnecessary trips.

Finally, if there is ever a request to assist others in the region with their flooding issues, we encourage people to help. During our time to need in 1997 we received assistance from numerous neighbors in the region. With our permanent flood protection in place, we are now in a position to help others. Thank you.”
