PROCEEDINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF GRAND FORKS, NORTH DAKOTA
June 27, 2000

The city council of the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota met in its adjourned session in the council chambers in City Hall on Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at the hour of 7:30 o’clock p.m. with Mayor Owens presiding. Present at roll call were Council Members Brooks, Polovitz, Hamerlik, Bouley, Glassheim, Carpenter, Lunak, Klave, Beyer, Babinchak, Bakken, Hafner, Martinson - 13; absent: Council Member Lucke - 1.

There were comments from the retiring members of the city council on their years with the city council and expressed appreciation to the other members of the council, the mayor and community.

RECOGNITION OF RETIRING COUNCIL MEMBERS

Mayor Owens expressed appreciation on behalf of the City and citizens of Grand Forks and presented plaques to the retiring council members for their years of dedicated community service as members of the Grand Forks city council: Kenneth Polovitz, representing Ward 1, June 1996 to June, 2000; Beth Bouley, November, 1997 to June, 2000; Douglas Carpenter, representing Ward 4, and president of city council, September, 1986 to June, 2000; Cindy Beyer, representing Ward 5, April, 1992 to June, 2000; Duane Hafner, June 1996 to June, 2000; and Jerry Lucke (who was not present) representing Ward 2, November 1997 to June, 2000.

President Carpenter presented a plaque to Mayor Owens for her years of service to the community as mayor for the years June 1996 to June, 2000.

MATTER OF CONTRIBUTION TO CITY OF FARGO
AND TO SURROUNDING AREAS

Mayor Owens reported that the Chamber of Commerce is raising $50,000 to go to the flooded areas around us, regional and Fargo/Moorhead, and authorized $2,000 from our miscellaneous contingencies to these communities because of the services that they offered to us during the flood of 1997.

ADJOURN SINE DIE

It was moved by Council Member Lunak and seconded by Council Member Martinson that we do now adjourn sine die. Carried 13 votes affirmative.
