MINUTES
CITY OF GRAND FORKS - BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
May 7, 2001

The city council of the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota was called to meet as the Board of Equalization in the city council chambers on Monday, May 7, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. as required by the North Dakota Century Code, with Mayor Brown presiding. Present at roll call were Council Members Brooks, Bjerke, Stevens, Hamerlik, Burke, Glassheim, Gershman, Christensen, Klave, Kerian, Bakken, Kreun - 12; absent: Council Members Lunak, Martinson - 2.

Mayor Brown announced that anyone wishing to speak to an item may do so by being recognized prior to a vote being taken on the matter, and advised that the meeting is being televised.

APPROVE MINUTES

Typewritten copies of the minutes of the Board of Equalization meeting held on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 had been distributed to the members of the Board. It was moved by Council Member Bjerke and seconded by Council Member Kreun that these minutes be approved. Carried 12 votes affirmative.

ACCEPT VALUATION OF ASSESSOR ON PROPERTY
AT 1501 NORTH 4TH STREET

The staff recommendation from the city assessor’s office relating to the appeal of their 2001 assessor’s value by Fred Madsen on the east 60.33 ft. of Lot 11, Block 12, Skidmore Addition, with recommendation to uphold the assessor’s value.

It was moved by Council Member Brooks and seconded by Council Member Bjerke that the recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 12 votes affirmative.

ACCEPT VALUATION OF ASSESSOR ON PROPERTIES
AT 212 AND 214 NORTH 9TH STREET, AND APPROVE
REDUCTION IN VALUATION OF PROPERTY AT 222
NORTH 9TH STREET

The staff recommendation from the city assessor’s office relating to the appeal of the 2001 assessor’s values by J. Donna Miller on the following properties: 212 North 9th Street, 214 North 9th Street, and 222 North 9th Street, with recommendation to uphold the assessor’s value on 212 North 9th Street of $36,900 (appeal being withdrawn by owner); uphold assessor’s value on 214 North 9th Street of $33,900 (appeal being withdrawn by owner); reduce assessor’s value on property at 222 North 9th Street from $35,000 to $25,600.

It was moved by Council Member Kreun and seconded by Council Member Bakken that this recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 12 votes affirmative.

ACCEPT VALUATION OF ASSESSOR ON PROPERTY
AT 2049 30TH AVENUE SOUTH AND 2149 30TH
AVENUE SOUTH

The staff recommendation from the city assessor’s office relating to the appeal of the 2001 assessor’s values by Grand Forks Leased Housing Associates I and II on 2049 30th Avenue South and 2149 30th Avenue South, with recommendation to uphold the assessor’s value.

It was moved by Council Member Kreun and seconded by Council Member Klave that this recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 12 votes affirmative.

CERTIFY ASSESSMENTS TO COUNTY AUDITOR

It was moved by Council Member Bakken and seconded by Council Member Brooks that the tax rolls as presented by the city assessor and as equalized by the Board of Equalization be and are hereby certified to the county auditor, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. Upon roll call the following voted “aye”: Council Members Brooks, Bjerke, Stevens, Hamerlik, Burke, Glassheim, Gershman, Christensen, Klave, Kerian, Bakken, Kreun - 12; voting “nay”: none. Mayor Brown declared the motion carried and the assessments certified.

ADJOURN

It was moved by Council Member Kreun and seconded by Council Member Bakken that we do now adjourn sine die. Carried 12 votes affirmative.
