MINUTES
CITY OF GRAND FORKS - BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
May 6, 1996
The city council of the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota was called to meet as the Board of Equalization in the city council chambers by Mayor Polovitz on Monday, May 6, 1996 at 7:00 p.m. as required by the North Dakota Century Code. Present were Council Members Beach, Hoeppner, Carpenter, Sande, Beyer, Babinchak, Geller, Hagness - 8; absent: Council Members McCabe, Hamerlik, Hanson, Glassheim, Klave, Johnson - 6.
APPROVE MINUTES
Typewritten copies of the minutes of the Board meeting held on Tuesday, April 9, 1996 were presented and read. It was moved by Council Member Hoeppner and seconded by Council Member Beyer that the minutes be approved as read. Carried 8 votes affirmative.
APPROVE REDUCTION IN ASSESSED VALUATION
OF PROPERTY AT 25-27 POLK STREET
The finance committee of the city council reported having considered the protest by Eman and Leona Hejlik, 25-27 Polk Street, and recommended a reduction in the valuation from $72,600 to $66,000.
It was moved by Council Member Babinchak and seconded by Council Member Carpen- ter that this recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 8 votes affirmative.
ACCEPT VALUATION OF ASSESSOR ON PROPERTY
AT 1218 SHAKESPEARE ROAD
The finance committee of the city council reported having considered the protest by Lyle and Yvonne Nelson, 1218 Shakespeare Road, and recommended to uphold the assessor's valuation of $109,000.
It was moved by Council Member Babinchak and seconded by Council Member Carpen- ter that this recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 8 votes affirmative.
APPROVE REDUCTION IN ASSESSED VALUE OF
PROPERTY AT 1239 DYKE AVENUE
The finance committee of the city council reported having considered the protest by Jerome Bakke, 1314 Cottonwood Street, for property located at 1239 Dyke Avenue, and recommended a reduction in the valuation from $148,400 to $142,000.

It was moved by Council Member Babinchak and seconded by Council Member Carpen- ter that this recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 8 votes affirmative.
ACCEPT VALUATION OF ASSESSOR ON PROPERTY
AT 2751 32ND AVENUE SOUTH
The finance committee of the city council reported having considered the protest by Hospitality Assessment Services, Inc. for Pizza Hut, 2751 32nd Avenue South, and recommended to uphold the assessor's valuation of $471,400.
It was moved by Council Member Babinchak and seconded by Council Member Carpen- ter that this recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 8 votes affirmative.
APPROVE REDUCTION IN ASSESSED VALUE OF PROPERTY
AT 805-925 NORTH 43RD STREET
The finance committee of the city council reported having considered the protest by Ernst & Young for Holiday Air Apartments, 805-925 North 43rd Street, and recom- mended to reduce value of the property from $2,166,200 to $1,901,600, as recommended by the assessor.
It was moved by Council Member Babinchak and seconded by Council Member Carpen- ter that this recommendation be and is hereby approved. Carried 8 votes affirmative.
CERTIFY ASSESSMENTS TO COUNTY AUDITOR
It was moved by Council Member Babinchak and seconded by Council Member Beyer that the tax rolls as presented by the city assessor and as equalized by the Board of Equalization be and are hereby certified to the county auditor, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. Upon roll call the following voted "aye": Council Members Beach, Hoeppner, Carpenter, Sande, Beyer, Babinchak, Geller, Hagness - 8; voting "nay": none. Mayor Polovitz declared the motion carried and the assessments certified.
ADJOURN
It was moved by Council Member Geller and seconded by Council Member Babinchak that we do now adjourn sine die. Carried 8 votes affirmative.
