Minutes/Public Safety Committee - December 7, 1998 - 6:00 p.m.

Members present: Bakken, Bouley, Martinson.

1. Request to call for bids for police vehicles:
a) four-door sedans
b) 4x4mid-size pickup.__________________
John Packett, chief of police, stated he had correspondence from committee to go out for bids and in addition, asked that they allow to put in specs to take options on leasing - asking for approval to go out for bids. Moved by Bouley and Martinson to approve specs. and authorize call for bids. Motion carried.

2. Matter of grants through the Edward Byrne Formula Grant Program:
a) Operational Effectiveness Project (canine) for 1/1/99 to 12/31/99 - $10,696.00
b) Operational Effectiveness Project (narcotics officer) for 1/1/99 to 12/31/99 $24,660.00
c) Multi-jurisdictional Task Force Project for 1/1/99 to 12/31/99 - $121,954.00
d) School Resources Officers
e) Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant
Chief Packett distributed copies of grant info and reviewed grants.
a) new grant - no city monies for the dog or second one.
b) one year bid - no obligation to retain people at end of the grant.
d) 2 school officers at Central and at Red River High Schools, - 3 year-grant, had verbal agreements with school and School District partnering with City and submitting retention plan.
Moved by Bouley and Martinson to approve and proceed with grants. Motion carried.

3. Applications for gaming permits:
a) St. Mary's Home and School Assn. - bingo for year ending 6/01/99
Moved by Bouley and Martinson to approve. Motion carried.
