Meeting Minutes
April 25, 2006
7:00 p.m.
City Hall

Present: Marsha Gunderson, Chair, Chuck Flemmer, Gordon Iseminger, Ted Jelliff, Melinda Leach, Cory Lien, Gerad Paul, Dale Sickels, Sandy Slater
Others: Peg O’Leary

Motion: to approve the minutes of the April 11, 2006 meeting as presented. (Iseminger, Jelliff)
Motion carries.

Chair Report – Marsha Gunderson
Gunderson welcomed new members Cory Lien and Gerad Paul.
Granitoid – General discussion arising out of the potential repairs to some of the Granitoid streets and the status of the discussions between the groups involved: the State Historical Society, GF Engineering Dept., and GFHPC. Little has been accomplished since the last meeting. O’Leary has spoken briefly with Mark Walker and Mike Yavarow but no meeting has been set up.
608 18th Ave. S. – Gunderson noted that this mid-century modern home will be considered at the next meeting and asked that members drive by the home to familiarize themselves with its appearance and with the streetscape.

Coordinator Report – Peg O’Leary
MPO Review Process – The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) has asked the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to include the GF Historic Preservation Commission (GFHPC) in the MPO public participation process. In response to that, or perhaps coincidentally, Earl Haugen called the office to say that discussion has been reopened regarding the improvement of the Minnesota Avenue/4th Avenue South corridor. He said the primary issue is likely to be resurfacing, since the left turn lanes have been addressed and widening was proven unnecessary in the 1994 study. He will keep us posted.
Riverside Nomination – no new information.
Granitoid Street Repair – discussed earlier.
Annual CLG Meeting – O’Leary sent the minutes of the last meeting, reflecting the Commissioners’ comments regarding place and time of the meeting, to Walt Bailey. She also called and left a message to discuss the timing in person, but has not received a call back yet.
GF Fire Department Memorabilia – The Fire Dept. is looking for memorabilia to use in a permanent display at their main fire station.
2007 City Budget Process Timeline – O’Leary reviewed the budget timeline, which will continue over the summer and be finalized in September.

Office Scanner – O’Leary requested authorization to purchase a new scanner, which would scan slides, for the office. The cost is $150.00.
Motion: to authorize $150 for the new scanner. (Jelliff, Slater)
Motion carries unanimously.
National Park Service Historic Preservation Fund Annual Report FY 2005 – O’Leary passed around a copy of the report, which features a quote from Mayor Brown.

Other Business
Grand Forks Hospitals Memorial – Jelliff said that a letter from Iseminger has renewed interest in developing a display at Altru Hospital detailing the history of hospitals in Grand Forks. Friends of Preservation is committed to doing the necessary research and writing for the project.

Meeting adjourned. 8:10 p.m.

The next meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in room A101, City Hall.

Respectfully submitted,

Peg O’Leary
Coordinator
