BOARD OF ZONING ADJUSTMENT

The Board of Zoning Adjustments held a public hearing in Room A102 of City Hall. A notice was placed in the Grand Forks Herald, as required by City Ordinances.

Acting Chairman Lynn Vreeland called the meeting to order at 10:35 AM.

Members present were: Lynn Vreeland, Mark Peterson, Larry Boltz and Jim Galloway.

Members absent were: Kent Anderson and Del Scholler.

It was moved by Jim Galloway and seconded by Mark Peterson to dispense with the reading of the last meeting’s minutes. Motion passed unanimously.


The following appeals were heard:
1. Casper & Carolyn Feist, 923 S 12th St, have made a request for a variance to the accessory building, front yard setback and impervious area coverage requirements [Section 18-0305, 18-0209(8) & (9) of the Land Development Code] in order to build a shed and deck. Legal Description: Lots 23 & 24, Block 20, McKelvey’s Addition.

It was moved by Jim Galloway and seconded by Mark Peterson to allow only five feet (5’) of second front yard setback in order to build a deck on to the home.

It was moved by Jim Galloway and seconded by Larry Boltz to allow up to forty-eighty percent (48%) impervious surface area coverage and up to one-thousand, one hundred and sixty-four (1,164) square feet of accessory building area in order to build a storage building. Motion passed unanimously.


2. Brian & Kelly Seng, 1774 Lydia Circle, have made a request for a variance to the accessory building and impervious surface area requirements [Sections 18-0305 & 18-0208(7) of the Land Development Code] in order to build an accessory pool building. Legal Description: Lot B, Block 1, Birkholz Homestead Addition.

It was moved by Jim Galloway and seconded by Mark Peterson to allow up to forty-three percent (43%) of impervious surface area coverage and one thousand, four hundred and sixty (1,460) square feet of accessory building area to build a pool building and landscaping. Motion passed unanimously.


3. Larry Halvorson,1611 7th Ave N, has made a request for a variance to the accessory building and impervious surface area coverage requirements [Section 18-0305 & 18-0209(7) of the Land Development Code] in order to build a covered deck addition on to the detached garage. Legal Description: Lots 6, 7 & 8, Block 25, Alexander and Ives Addition.

It was moved by Mark Peterson and seconded by Jim Galloway to allow up to one thousand, five hundred and thirty-four (1,534) square feet of accessory building area in order to build an addition onto to the existing detached garage. Motion passed unanimously.


Larry Boltz moved for adjournment and was seconded by Mark Peterson. Motion passed unanimously.
