Minutes of the Grand Forks City Council/Board of Equalization
Monday, May 27, 2008 - 5:30 p.m.___________________________
The city council of the city of Grand Forks, ND was called to meet as the Board of Equalization in the council chambers on Monday, May 27, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. with Mayor Brown presiding. Present at roll call were Council Members Hutchison, McNamara, Glassheim, Gershman, Christensen, Kreun - 6; absent: Council Member Bakken - 1.
CONSIDERATION OF PROTEST OF ASSESSOR'S VALUES
The staff report from the city assessor relating to protests to City Board of Equalization, with recom-mendation to take action as indicated:
1) 1359.002.00 (2501 32nd Avenue South), Sam's Club by Wal-mart - Withdrawn by owner.
2) 37 properties: (Carmike Theatre - 2306 32nd Avenue South; Forest Park Estates - 2550 South 24th Street (office), 3415 20th Avenue South (Bldg. 1-4), 2200 South 24th Street (Bldg. 5), 200 South 34th Street (Bldg.6), 3430 24th Avenue South (Bldg. 7), 2300 S. 34th street (Bldg. 8), 2350 South 34th Street (Bldg. 9), 3460 24th Avenue South (Bldg. 10), 3400 24th Avenue South (Bldg. 11); Grand Forks MedPark Mall - 1375 and 1395 South Columbia Road; Jenner Properties - 1105 and 3624 Landeco Lane; Legacy - 2451 24th Avenue South, 2700 South 34th Street, 2600 South 34th Street, 3780 30th Avenue South, 3740 30th Avenue South, 3700 30th Avenue South, 3500 30th Avenue South; Southwind Apartments - 3403, 2453 and 2493 27th Avenue South; Valley Park Manor - 2300 Library Lane and 2021, 2205, 2323 17th Avenue South; by Investors Real Estate Trust by Paradigm - Uphold assessor's values.
3) 9 properties: (Columbia Mall, 2800 South Columbia Road) by GK Development by Paradigm - Uphold assessor's values
4) 2212.037.00 (1105 29th Avenue South) Single family home by Marijo Whitcomb - Uphold assessor's value, Owner will accept that, however, she wanted Board to know that she feels taxes are too high and mill rates should be reduced.
5) 3303.051.04 (2201 Gateway Drive) by Ideal Inn Motel by J.R. Patel - Reduce value from $449,200 to $414,600, Owner agreed with new value.
It was moved by Council Member Kreun and seconded by Council Member Glassheim to accept the recommendations as listed by the assessor's office. Carried 6 votes affirmative.
CERTIFY ASSESSMENTS TO COUNTY AUDITOR
It was moved by Council Member Kreun and seconded by Council Member Glassheim that the tax rolls as presented by the city assessor and equalized by the Board of Equalization are certified to the county auditor, Grand Forks County, North Dakota.
Upon call for the question and upon roll call vote, the following voted "aye": Council Members Hutchison, McNamara, Glassheim, Gershman, Christensen, Kreun - 6; voting "nay": none. Mayor Brown declared the motion carried and the assessments certified.
ADJOURN
It was moved by Council Member Christensen and seconded by Council Member Gershman that we adjourn. Carried 6 votes affirmative.
