Grand Forks, ND – Grand Forks residents turned out in record numbers to take part in the recent Electronic Recycling Program – and they contributed a record amount of items.

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, 462 vehicles dropped off nearly 15 tons of electronics in just three hours – three tons more than was collected last year. The electronics were transported to Waste Management’s Material Recovery facility in Minneapolis where as much material as possible was recycled and residual components like lead, nickel, cadmium and mercury were properly disposed.

The collection included:

9,752 lbs. of TVs
7,279 lbs. of Computer Monitors
3,937 lbs. of Computer CPU's
8,629 lbs. of misc. electronics
29,597 lbs. (15 Tons)

Now that the annual City-sponsored electronics recycling event has concluded, residents still have two options for electronics recycling:
