The Grand Forks Tobacco Free Coalition has released the results of a study that shows recent smoking restrictions have had no adverse effect on businesses in Grand Forks.

The study was conducted by Dr. Cullen F. Goenner, Professor and Faculty Fellow from the UND Department of Economics.

In August 2005, the state of North Dakota implemented legislation prohibiting smoking in most public workplaces, exempting bars, truck stops, and casinos. More recently, in August of 2010, the city of Grand Forks extended the legislation to prohibit smoking in those formerly exempted workplaces.

The purpose of the study was to determine what if any economic impact did the 2005 and 2010 smoke-free laws have on the sales of restaurants and bars located in the city of Grand Forks.

The report and the executive summary are available online at tobaccobytes.com
