The Grand Forks City Council and Mayor Michael R. Brown will join together today, Monday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. with students, local education and law enforcement officials and local businesses and community organizations in launching the multi-faceted public awareness campaign, “It’s Not Ok!” to curb underage drinking in our city.

This campaign urges the adults of the community to accept responsibility for keeping its children safe. “We need to let our children know we care about them,” said Mayor Brown, “and as far as underage drinking goes, it’s not OK!”

The campaign focuses on providing a consistent message and solid community support for adults in the community to take the position that allowing minor’s access to alcohol in any way is against the law and not to be tolerated.

The citywide prevention program will be presented to area high schools in grades 6, 7 & 8th grades. Team groups will be selected from each grade and will participate in an all city event. The program encourages youth to take an active role in reducing the negative effects of underage alcohol use and drinking and driving.
