On Thursday, May 12, 2011 the City and the Grand Forks Immigrant Integration Initiative invite members of the public to view the film called Welcome to Shelbyville directed and produced by Kim A. Snyder. The screening will take place at the Empire Theater at 7:00 p.m. and an open community discussion and panelist reception will follow.

The documentary focuses on a Tennessee town (Shelbyville) that is experiencing opportunities and challenges that come with immigration. The documentary provides an objective view on the many people and faces that are affected by immigrant integration in this small southern town.

The film is approximately one hour long and will be followed by a facilitated discussion that is intended to help kick-off a broad community discussion on immigrant integration in Grand Forks. A resource panel that includes representatives from around the community will be on hand to respond to questions and provide information.
