Garbage Collection

Weekly Side Load Garbage Collection

  • Bagged household waste only
  • Lid closed, no overloading please
  • Place for pickup by 7:00 am on your day for pick-up. (Click here for a map of pick-up days in pdf format)
  • Place your garbage containers away from parked vehicles.
  • Within three feet of: end of your driveway for berm pick-up or alley line for alley pickup
  • Four feet from obstacles such as: mailboxes, trees, fences, poles; recycling, neighbor's side load container
  • Loosely filled - (recycle your cardboard boxes)
  • Animal waste must be bagged
  • Hot ashes must be cooled and sealed in a bag
  • No grass or yard waste
  • No dirt, rocks, cement, construction materials
  • Clear snow to keep container level

Sharps: For safety, place in strong plastic container for transport to Altru's Environmental Container inside their boiler entrance at the rear of their main facility.

Seasonal Collections

Yard Waste Collection Program

Option #1 - May 1 to Sep 30 - Place yard waste in brown paper bags or boxes, or cans (lid off) and place for weekly collection on your garbage day.

Option #2 - May 1 to Nov 15 - Self-haul to the landfill or one of the Grand Forks City Compost Recycling Sites.

Fall Leaf Collection

Option #1 - Haul leaves/grass to Grand Forks City Compost/Recycling Site.
*Bags of leaves will not be picked up at your residence.

Option #2 - Vacuum Leaf Collection begins (tentatively) the second week of October, continuing until two passes are made through Grand Forks (weather permitting).

Rake leaves to your berm (between curb and sidewalk) in loose piles, away from obstacles such as trees, fences, etc.

Branches/Brush Debris

Option #1 - Haul branches/brush to the Landfill or one of two site locations at Grand Forks City Compost/Recycling Sites.

Option #2 - Call for special collection/chipping - 738-8740 - fees will apply

**Large amounts of woody material and/or any tree trunks over 8" in diameter will require a private hauler - consult your yellow pages for listings.

Compost sites are for your convenience. Please help us to keep them tidy. They are for grass, yard waste, not household refuse. Thank you for your cooperation!
