MINUTES/PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
Monday, December 6, 1993 - 6:15 p.m.

Members present: Crawford, Geller, Hoeppner.

1. Matter of various traffic problems along proposed snowmobile
route.
John Thompson, traffic engineer, submitted map and listing of recommendations and intersections to be signed at est. cost of $560.00 (for road crossing and to warn motorists); that if Club purchases signs, the City will install.

Several reps. of Snowmobile Club (Clair Zinfeld, Brent Seifert) were present as was the manager of Park Place Apartments on 42nd St.

After further discussion it was moved by Hoeppner and Geller to forward plan to the council for approval, contingent upon the arrangement with the snowmobile club for purchase of the signs at an est. cost of $560.00. Motion carried. Moved by Geller and Hoeppner to remove parking on North 42nd Street on year around basis. Motion carried.

2. Matter of consideration of bids for open filing system at
police department.
The committee reviewed bids received, and it was noted that Norby's is low bid meeting specs. Moved by Hoeppner and Geller to accept the bid of Norby's Office Supply, low bid meeting specifications, in the amount of $11,263.00. Motion carried.

3. Request by Hardee's to change direction of traffic between
7th Avenue South and DeMers Avenue.
Jerry Harmon, mgr. of the Hardee's Restaurant at DeMers and Wash. St. were present and stated that since DeMers reconstruction and installation of median have had problem, and would like to change direction of traffic; and would like to make alley one-way going north. Ken Vein, city engineer, stated there were be problem using public alley for private purposes. After discussion, Mr. Vein suggested they consider vacating alley if agreeable with Park Board; it was noted there are utilities in the alley; and explained vacation procedures. The committee agreed with the recommendation by Mr. Vein, and recommended that Mr. Harmon check this out. No action taken.
