MINUTES/BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
Monday, June 30, 1997 - 7:00 p.m.

The city council sitting as the Board of Equalization met in the council chambers in City Hall on Monday, June 30, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. with Mayor Owens presiding. Present at roll call were Council Members Beach, Hamerlik, Hanson, Glassheim, Carpenter, Sande, Klave, Beyer, Babinchak, Bakken, Hafner, Hagness - 12; absent: none; 1 seat vacant.

RECEIVE PROTESTS ON ASSESSED VALUATION
OF PROPERTY

The deputy city auditor reported that written protests had been received from the following: Coca Cola Enterprises, Inc., 819 South 46th Street; Marcil Family Partnership-WDAZ-Channel 8, 2220 South Washington Street; South Forks Plaza, J.Herzog & Sons, Inc., 1726 South Washington Street; and First National Bank, Trustee for Bertha Byrne, 1322 12th Avenue South.

Mel Carsen, city assessor, reported that his office has completed the work for the 1997 assessments, that they have notified property owners who received a 15% or more increase, about 750 notices. He stated they had received a protest in addition to the protests stated (Carol and Wayne Carlson, 2333 South 38th Street, that there may be some from the audience, and the protests would be referred to the finance committee for individual hearings.

It was moved by Council Member Carpenter and seconded by Council Member Glassheim to refer the protests to the finance committee for consideration. Carried 12 votes affirmative.

COUNCIL MEMBER POLOVITZ REPORTED PRESENT

Mayor Owens asked if there was anyone else in the audience who had a protest to present. There were no additional protests.

ADJOURN

It was moved by Council Member Hanson and seconded by Council Member Sande to recess until the finance committee has had an opportunity to consider the protests. Carried 12 votes affirmative.
