625 9th Ave. S., Section 106 Review – Kevin Severson
Red River Valley Community Action is planning extensive interior and exterior work on this 1898 house. (See attached proposal for details.) Discussion focused on whether a window on the west side should be removed and on the type of replacement windows appropriate for the house. It was determined that most of the windows are original but are in poor condition; the siding is wood and in good condition. It will also be necessary to attach a railing to the front porch to meet code.
Melinda Leach arrived at this time.
Motion: to concur that most of the proposed work at 625 9th Ave. S. would not adversely affect this historic structure; exceptions as follows: no windows are to be closed over, the exterior handrail is to be wood, replacement windows are to be wood double- or single-hung and size will match existing openings, any storms replaced will be wood (including in the porch area).
(Slater, Flemmer)
Motion carries.

Chair Report – Marsha Gunderson
Gunderson gave each member a copy of the Preservation North Dakota Legacy Award in recognition of their exceptional achievements in furthering preservation of the historical, architectural and cultural environment of North Dakota.

Coordinator Report – Peg O’Leary
Lustron House (formerly 602 Lincoln Dr.) – Meredith Richards is convening a meeting of representatives from NDSU, Urban Development, and the County Historical Society to discuss the reconstruction of the Lustron House on the Museum grounds. O’Leary has also been invited to attend.
Granitoid Bronze Name Plate and Interpretive Panel Placement – Regarding actions at the last meeting, Mike Yavarow called to say that this activity is not part of a mitigation settlement and, while GFHPC would be asked to review the panel narrative, the Commission would not have final approval. He also asked that the Commission confirm that the Granitoid section will be placed in the sidewalk but just off-side from the panel so that a person standing in front of the panel would not be standing right on the Granitoid. Commissioners agreed that this would be fine.
Riverside Survey – Completed and final payment has been authorized by the State.
Downtown Nomination – Completed and submitted to the National Park Service. Final payment will go out with the next set of city payments.
GF County Fairgrounds – Two meetings of Fair Board members and the GFHPC sub-committee have been held. Everyone seems to be on the same page regarding preserving the gateway and using Beautification funding for that purpose.
City Hall Preservation Grant – The bids to continue restoration work on the south façade of City Hall came in higher than the grant amount. Meredith Richards will rebid in January, 2006.

Motion: to adjourn. (Ottum, Sickels)
Motion carries. Meeting adjourned. 8:30 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, in City Hall room A101.

Respectfully submitted,

Peg O’Leary
Coordinator
