Meeting Minutes
June 10, 2008
7:00 p.m.
City Hall

Present: Sandy Slater, Vice-Chair, Chuck Flemmer, Gordon Iseminger, Ted Jelliff,
Melinda Leach, Cory Lien, Gerad Paul, Dale Sickels
Others: Kevin Severson, Red River Valley Community Action; Peg O’Leary

Slater called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.; a quorum was present.

Motion: to approve the minutes of the May 27, 2008, meeting with the following correction: the motion to approve the minutes was made by Jelliff and seconded by Lien.

Motion carries.

Red River Valley Community Action Agency – Kevin Severson
515 N. 6th Street, built 1887 – The owners propose to use a federally subsidized loan for a variety of work including vinyl window replacements and new roofing. The house was surveyed in 1989 and found to have no National Register nomination potential nor is it located in an historic district.
Motion: to concur with a determination of no historic properties affected by the work proposed at 515 N. 6th St. (Paul, Leach)
Motion carries.
719 N. 5th Street, built 1905 – The owners propose to use a federally subsidized loan for a variety of work including new roofing, new doors and assorted interior work. The house was surveyed in 1989 and found to have no nomination potential nor is it located in an historic district.
Motion: to concur with a determination of no historic properties affected by the proposed work at 719 N. 5th St. (Jelliff, Paul)
Motion carries.
1223 S. 9th Street, built 1952 – The owners propose to use a federally subsidized loan to replace the roof with asphalt shigles similar to the existing. Members noted that the house is in virtually original condition and could contribute to a potential district.
Motion: to concur with a determination of no adverse effect from the work proposed at 1223 S. 9th Street. (Paul, Sickels)
Motion carries.

Chair Report – No report.



Coordinator Report – Peg O’Leary
UND Nomination – HPC comments and those of the SHPO have been forwarded to the contractor. The focus of the comments was on clarifying the pertinence of the extensive section on college facility planning and on including more detail specific to UND.
County Fairgrounds Nomination – O’Leary has notified both proposers and is formulating the contract.
Commission Appointments – The Mayor’s office will forward the appointments to the CoW for the June 23, 2008, meeting.
North Third Street Memorial Plaques – The plaques have been mounted in the approximate locations of the three buildings. They look very nice though they don’t show up as much as they did on their own stands.
Community Reception for St. Bernard Parish Representatives – Members are invited to a reception for President Craig Taffaro of St. Bernard Parish, New Orleans, LA.

Motion carries. Meeting adjourned. 8:00 p.m.

The next regular meeting will be at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2008, room A101, City Hall.
