The city council of the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota met in its adjourned session in the council chambers in City Hall on Friday, November 7, 1997 at the hour of 12:00 noon with President Hagness presiding. Present at roll call were Council Members Beach, Hamerlik, Glassheim, Carpenter, Beyer, Babinchak, Hagness - 7; absent: Council Members Polovitz, Sande, Klave, Bakken, Hafner - 5; 2 seats vacant.

CANVASS RETURNS OF SPECIAL CITY ELECTION
HELD NOVEMBER 4, 1997

President Hagness appointed the members of the city council as the canvassing board to canvass results of the votes cast in the several precincts in Wards 2 and 3 of the city in the special election held on November 4, 1997.

The deputy city auditor reported that their office had received returns from the three precincts of Ward 2 and four precincts of Ward 3 on the results of the special city election which had been held on Tuesday, November 4, 1997.

The deputy city auditor then presented certificates of the canvass of ballots from the election boards of the several precincts of the two wards of the city with instructions to confirm the numbers on those sheets with the vote tabulation summary, that when they have completed the verification to sign and date the canvass certificates they have reviewed. She reported that no absentee ballots received after election and 5 write-in votes were cast for Gene Schneeweis.

The canvassing board submitted the following report: Document No. 7386 - Report.

It was moved by Council Member Babinchak and seconded by Council Member Glassheim that the canvass of the ballots for Wards 2 and 3 be and are hereby verified and adopted as the official canvass of the votes cast in the special city election, and further that we authorize payment of the election costs for election officials. Upon roll call the following voted "aye": Council Members Beach, Hamerlik, Glassheim, Carpenter, Beyer, Babinchak, Hagness - 7; voting "nay": none. President Hagness declared the motion carried.

ADJOURN

It was moved by Council Member Hamerlik and seconded by Council Member Beach that we do now adjourn. Carried 7 votes affirmative.
