PROCEEDINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF GRAND FORKS, NORTH DAKOTA
June 25, 2002

The city council of the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota met in the council chambers in City Hall on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at the hour of 7:00 o’clock p.m. with Mayor Brown presiding. Present at roll call were Council Members Brooks, Bjerke, Stevens, Hamerlik, Burke, Glassheim, Gershman, Christensen, Klave, Kerian, Bakken, Kreun, Martinson - 13; absent: Council Member Lunak - 1.

RECOGNITION OF RETIRING COUNCIL MEMBERS

Mayor Brown expressed appreciation on behalf of the City and citizens of Grand Forks for their years of service and efforts to make our community and city a better place and that he would be recognizing all of the city council members, some will remain on council and looks forward to working with them in continuing to lead our community in a positive direction; and that he also would be presenting a plaque although they remain on council so their ongoing commitment will be recognized as much as their initial motivations and efforts and again thanked those who are leaving the council tonight for their service. Retiring council members are Council Members Bjerke, Stevens, Burke, Lunak, Klave, Bakken, Martinson.

Mayor Brown presented plaques to the council members: Duane Lunak, representing Ward 4, June 1998 to June 2002 (accepted by Council Member Martinson); Art Bakken, representing Ward 6, June 1996 to June 2002; Terry Bjerke, representing Ward 1, June 2000 to June 2002; Eliot Glassheim, representing Ward 3, April 1982 to June 2002; Douglas Christensen, representing Ward 5, June 2000 to June 2002; Curtiss Kreun, representing Ward 7, June 2000 to June 2002; Lowell Stevens, representing Ward 2, November 2000 to June 2002; Robert Klave, representing Ward 5, June 1994 to June 2002; Sam Martinson, representing Ward 7, June 1998 to June 2002; Gerald Hamerlik, representing Ward 2, June, 1994 to June 2002; Dorette Kerian, representing Ward 6, April 2001 to June 2002; Robert Brooks, representing Ward 1, June 1998 to June 2002; Tim Burke, representing Ward 3, June 2000 to June 2002; Harold Gershman, representing Ward 4, June 2000 to June 2002.

RECONSIDER ACTION RELATING TO REQUEST FOR
AMENDMENT TO THE ZONING MAP TO REZONE LOTS
17, 19, 21 AND 23, BLOCK 23, VILLARDS ADDITION FROM
R-4 (MULTIPLE FAMILY RESIDENCE, HIGH DENSITY)
DISTRICT TO B-3 (GENERAL BUSINESS) DISTRICT

Council Member Christensen stated that relating to the matter of request from Douglas A. Bergman for preliminary approval of an ordinance to amend the zoning map to rezone from R-4 (Multiple Family Residence High Density) District to B-3 (General Business) District, Lots 17, 19, 21 and 23, Block 23, Villards Addition to the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota (located at 12th Avenue South and South 15th Street) considered at the last meeting, with action taken to deny the request; and that if Mr. Bergman wished to address the council that he would move to reconsider the action taken at the June 17, 2002 council meeting, and moved to reconsider the matter. The motion was seconded by Council Member Kerian. Carried 13 votes affirmative.

It was then moved by Council Members Christensen and Kerian to table this matter to the July 15, 2002 city council meeting. Carried 13 votes affirmative.
ADJOURN SINE DIE

It was moved by Council Member Christensen and seconded by Council Member Kreun that we adjourn sine die. Carried 13 votes affirmative.
