The shape of the patch is symbolic of a shield and representative of the officer's charge to "serve and protect" their community.

The black background is in memory of law enforcement officers who lost their life in service to their profession.

Gold lettering representative of the professional ideals expressed by the Mission Statement and Core Values of the Grand Forks Police Department.
