    Community Resource Bureau

    Lieutenant James Remer

"In partnership with the community, we will employ traditional and nontraditional methods to reduce the fear of crime and be proactive in stopping crime and protecting life and property"

The Community Resource Bureau’s (CRB) purpose is to provide a partnership between police officers and the residents of Grand Forks. CRB is the main focus of community policing based programs and activities.

CRB’s philosophy is to interact in a positive manner with all citizens, not only to reduce crime, but also to work toward a better quality of life for everyone. This requires an adjustment in thinking by both police officers and citizens toward traditional Law Enforcement.

CRB’s goal is to not only reduce crime, but also reduce the fear of crime. This increases the quality of life for all.

CRB Officers deal with neighborhood concerns such as illegal drug activity, safety concerns, and often act as liaisons between the citizens and their government. They are also members of various neighborhood committees and interact with local residents one-on-one.

Each ward within Grand Forks is assigned a specific CRB Officer. Working with a specific area of the community allows and encourages officers to have personal contact with the schools and businesses in the assigned ward, as well as becoming familiar with residents, at-risk families, and neighborhood problems. It also provides the public a personalized source of information within the Police Department. The goal is to develop a positive working relationship between the Police Department and the citizens of the neighborhood.

CRB Officers undergo specialized training in non-traditional areas of Law Enforcement, including Community Policing, various crime prevention techniques and school-based programs.

The Community Resource Bureau's offices are now located in the Grand Forks Police Department. Hours are Mon - Fri 0800 - 1630.
