Police Chaplain Program

The Grand Forks Police Chaplain program was initiated in 1998. The chaplains are members of area clergy and serve on a volunteer on-call basis. The main purpose of the program is to provide a short-term link between citizens and officers who are confronted by a crisis and their own clergy, counselor, mental health professional or other support services. Police Chaplains Father Phil Ackerman and Pastor Mike Custer volunteer their time, talent, and energy to a very valuable program. The chaplains all receive some basic law enforcement training as well as training specifically for police chaplains. The chaplains are called out an average of once a month to assist with various calls including death notifications. The service provided by the chaplains is greatly appreciated by the officers and the public and we salute them for their caring and helpful attitude.
