Officers of the GFPD Bike Patrol

The GFPD Bike Patrol Program consists of 17 officers and 10 patrol bikes. All officers have completed a basic police cyclist course and annual bike firearms training. The bike patrols primary goals are to patrol the greenway, city parks and anywhere a patrol car can’t get. The visibility of a bike officer cannot be matched by an officer in a squad car. With this visibility also comes an increase in human contact with the community. On a bicycle, an officer is much more approachable than in a car. However, bikepatrol officers are able to use stealth to their advantage and pay more attention to their surroundings. This often helps officers be more proactive in fighting crime.

The Grand Forks Police’s Department Bike Patrol participates in the Greenway’s Adopt-A-Trail by maintaining a section of the Greenway downtown.
