    Special Teams

The Grand Forks Police Department Special Operations Group consists of the Special Enforcement Team, Crisis Negotiations Team and Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit. These teams work interdependently on many situations and their level of professionalism is very high. The NDPOA Working Committee on Special Operations Groups has been working toward establishing a funding source for certified teams that respond to situations outside of their own jurisdictions. It is necessary for qualified teams to assist other agencies because many of North Dakota’s agencies are simply too small to be able to afford or man a Special Operations Group. Funding for this plan has been established and the GFPD’s Special Operations Group was the first in the state to be certified under the standards and guidelines of this group.

The Grand Forks Police Department's Special Operations Group spent more than a year planning and researching a new tactical command vehicle. The department took possession of this vehicle in early 2005. This vehicle is truly "state of the art", and incorporates the newest video, audio and communications technology to assist in bringing any type of critical incident to a safe and rapid conclusion for all.

The Tactical Command Vehicle's Camera is shown here deployed at a height of just over 40 feet.

Contact Lt. Mike Ferguson for more information regarding the Special Operations Group. Please see the Special Operations Brochure for additional information.
