The citizens of Grand Forks passed a 1/2 cent sales tax for water and roads in November of 2017. The sales tax will expire in 20 years. The collection of the tax will begin in April 1, 2018 and the city will start receiving allocations from the new sales tax in June 2018.
However, we all want to make sure everyone can be as informed and involved as possible.
Here is a quick video on the work that has already been done.
The new Regional Water Treatment Plant is currently under construction with a completion date of June 2020. The $152 M project is funded by both the State of North Dakota and the City of Grand Forks.
Before the sales tax passed, the City of Grand Forks had budgeted a 6% utility rate increase to pay for our local share of the Water Treatment Plant construction costs. With the new sales tax, the City of Grand Forks amended the budget to a 0% utility rate increase.
