Mark Nelson started his career with the Grand Forks Police Department in 1988 as a patrol officer, or as he puts it "pushing a squad car". He has worked his way up the chain of command distinguishing himself as an exceptional officer and leader.
Before accepting a position with the Grand Forks Police Department, back in 1988,
Chief Nelson had only been to Grand Forks once in his life but quickly fell in love with the people and the community. He has put down deep roots raising four boys with his wife of 28 years.
"I genuinely like the community of Grand Forks. It's a solid community, I've raised four children here. To be honest I've never looked to go anywhere else" said Chief Nelson
Chief Nelson has spent 33 years serving his country in the Reserves or National Guard

Member of the Social Detox Committee
Over twenty (20) years in Scouting serving as a Den Master, Den Leader and other roles to support Boy Scouts of America.
