The Criminal Investigations Bureau’s (CIB)

main task is to investigate crimes that occur in Grand Forks.Through investigative means we attempt to identify suspects and supply prosecutors with information needed for a successful prosecution, we also find evidence which protects innocent people from being charged with a crime.

Facilities & Equipment Bureau

Equipment & Maintenance: is responsible for the operational upkeep of Police Department equipment.

Property & Evidence: The property section is responsible for procurement, inventory and issuing uniforms and equipment vital for officers to successfully perform their assigned duties. The evidence section is responsible for the accounting, coordination and reporting of thousands of pieces of evidence, which later may be used by detectives, prosecutors, defense attorneys, the Courts, and the property and evidence technicians themselves.

The Specialized Resource Bureau’s (SRB)

purpose is to provide a partnership between police officers and the residents of Grand Forks. The main focus of SRB is community policing based programs and activities.

"In partnership with the community, we will employ traditional and nontraditional methods to reduce the fear of crime and be proactive in stopping crime and protecting life and property".

The Human Resource Bureau's (HRB)

primary functions is to organize, coordinate and oversee the department's recruitment, retention, hiring, promotions, work force safety, pay and benefit issues, performance evaluation systems, training, educational internships, work study positions and other miscellaneous volunteer programs.

The Uniform Patrol Bureau (UPB)

includes the sergeants, patrol officers and sector officers who provide around the clock law enforcement services to the Grand Forks community. Officers within the Uniformed Patrol Bureau pride themselves on responding quickly to calls for service and providing professional services.

The Records Administration Bureau (RAB)

is responsible for the maintenance and archiving of Grand Forks Police Department records and reports along with furnishing administrative support to the department.  Records staff provides customer service to the public, directing inquiries, collecting various fees and releasing records in accordance with ND State Open Records law.

The Office of Professional Standards

reports directly to the Chief of Police and is primarily responsible for internal affairs, policy & directives, grants administration, and public information. This office also publishes the department’s annual report, oversees the awards committee and serves as the agency's Accreditation Manager.

Law Enforcement accreditation is awarded by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). CALEA was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations to enhance law enforcement as a profession and to improve law enforcement service delivery. The Grand Forks Police Department was awarded its initial Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation Award in 2014, and its second such award in 2017
