Fire Hydrant Flushing- May 31, 2016
The City of Grand Forks Water Distribution Department will be hydrant flushing Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am- 3:30 pm from now until August throughout the community.
The purpose of this program is to flush water mains, remove accumulated sediment in the lines, and to operate and test fire hydrants in ensure adequate fire protection.
The color of the initial hydrant flush of water can vary from dark brown to brown then change to light brown then finally changing to clean water after a few minutes of flushing. This can often cause concern with residents after seeing the initial flushed water quality. However, residents will often notice the water quality in regard to color, odor and taste improves dramatically after flushing of the hydrants.
