1. Purpose

A board to be known as the city mechanical board is hereby created for the purpose of licensing mechanical contractors and to adopt rules and regulations to govern the installation of mechanical equipment.

2. Members; Terms

The board shall consist of the city engineer and five (5) other members to be appointed by the city council for a period of three (3) years each or until their successors are appointed and qualified. The term of office of the five (5) appointive members shall expire on staggering schedules. The five (5) members appointed shall consist of two (2) master mechanical installers with at least five (5) years' practical experience and one (1) journeyman mechanical installer with at least five (5) years' practical experience and two (2) other persons in a related industry. A quorum shall consist of four (4) members.

Please be informed that the meeting date to hear these variances is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in person in the City Council Chambers at City Hall 255 N. 4th Street, to consider the appeals below. Members of the Grand Forks Board of Adjustments may be attending this meeting in person, electronically or telephonically.

  1. Brady Meland, 808 So. 12th St., has made a request for variance to impervious surface area coverage and accessory building requirements [Section 18-0211 (7) & 18-0305) of the Land Development Code] in order to develop the property as duplexes. Legal Description: Lot 5 & 6 Block 8 of McKelvey's Addition.
  2. James Snider, 1305 cherry St., has made a request for variance to impervious surface area coverage and accessory building requirements [Section 18-0209(7) &18-0305) of the Land Development Code] in order to build a detached garage. Legal Description: North 42' of Lot 31 Block 5 of Lincoln Park View 2nd Addition.
  3. Collin Hanson, 2018 Chestnut So, has made a request for variance to impervious surface area coverage requirements [Section 18-0208(7) of the Land Development Code] in order to build a detached garage. Legal Description: Lot 9 Block 5 of Hvidston's Sub-Division.
  4. Vreeland Construction on behalf of William & Jenette Wyatt , 3004 Walnut St, have made a request for variance to impervious surface area coverage requirements [Section 18-0208(7) of the Land Development Code] in order to build a home addition. Legal Description: Lot 16 Block 2 of Sunset Acres 2nd Addition.
  5. Craftmasters Construction on behalf of JJ Safranski, 6200 Driftwood Dr., have made a request for variance to impervious surface area coverage, accessory building area, and side yard setback requirements [Table 18-0206 (5) of the Land Development Code] in order to build detached accessory building. Legal Description: Lot 10, Block 2 of Edgewood Estates Addition
  6. Tamara Spicer, 1203 2nd Ave. N., has made a request for a variance to the impervious surface area coverage and accessory building requirements [Section 18-0211(10) & 18-0305 of the Land Development Code in order to build an attached garage. Legal Description: Lots 2 & 4 Block O of Budge & Eshelman's 2nd Addition.
