Background:

The Welcoming Community Roadmap project will develop action steps to help improve access to services, advancement opportunities, and economic opportunities – as well as the overall connected and inclusive culture – that will help keep and grow Grand Forks as rich, strong and growing welcoming community.

The Roadmap project is spearheaded by the Grand Forks Immigrant Integration Initiative (GFIII) committee and was initiated in January 2018 with a target time period of Fall 2018 for recommendations on specific action steps. The early stages have included strategy and data collection through demographic studies, surveys, and focus groups and the project is now at the point where the perspectives and/or input from diverse members from around the community are needed to craft recommendations for the Welcoming Community Roadmap.

For the last ten years, the GFIII has been working to help smooth the path for immigrants and refugees as they come to Grand Forks and establish their lives as our neighbors, coworkers and friends. Importantly, however, the nature of the Welcoming Community Roadmap extends beyond refugees and immigrants and is focused on the experience of all newcomers to our community, as well as the overall atmosphere of inclusion and equity we support.
