Mission Statement

To maintain and repair the City’s street and trail systems, ensuring safe roads for the traveling public.

Department Objectives

  • Street Sweeping: From April through October, sweep City streets weekly to maintain a clean, dust-free environment, safe driving surfaces, and efficient storm sewer maintenance.
  • Medians and Berms Maintenance: Regularly mow medians and berms along the main thoroughfares of Grand Forks to ensure a well-maintained appearance.
  • Safety Priority: Operate the Street Division with a strong emphasis on safety for both employees and citizens.
  • Winter Road Maintenance: Clear snow and sand and salt streets as needed throughout the winter to ensure safe traveling conditions.
  • Signage and Striping: Maintain traffic signs and road striping to ensure safe traffic conditions, with a goal of striping twice annually.

Program Description

The Street Division is responsible for maintaining safe and well-kept City streets. This includes mowing, street sweeping, snow removal, street sanding, alley maintenance, and maintaining signage and striping. To maximize the life of the City’s roadways, the Streets Division also performs preventative maintenance like crack sealing and repairs potholes. These efforts are aimed at extending the lifespan of the streets, thereby reducing costs for citizens.
