Board of Equalization Update:
The City has scheduled the annual City Board of Equalization meeting for April 6, 2020 in the City Council Chambers. This meeting is required by state law. In light of the circumstances with COVID-19, we do not want people to appeal in person at this meeting. We want people to know that anyone wishing to appeal a value for the 2020 tax year is encouraged to do so in writing or over the phone. All written and phone appeals will be treated as if you appeared at the meeting in person. Written appeals can be sent to email@example.com or mailed to PO Box 5200, Grand Forks, ND 58206. Appeals should be submitted before 5:00 pm on Monday April 6, 2020. If you wish to appeal by phone, please call the Assessing Department at 701-746-2611. All appeals must be received by 5pm on Monday, April 6, 2020.
The Assessing Department is responsible for identifying all real property within the City of Grand Forks and determining the corresponding value which is used for property tax purposes. This includes appraisals of all new construction each year, as well as updating the value of existing properties when changes occur. The Assessing Department is also charged with verifying various properties that qualify for tax exemptions and credits as specified in the North Dakota Century Code.
