This year's academy is full. There is a waiting list for next year. 

 

The Citizen’s Academy is a nine (9) week program designed to offer community members the chance to gain insight into the day-to-day operations of the Grand Forks Police Department through presentations, tours, demonstrations, ride-alongs, and hands-on activities.

Classes are held once a week on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at the Grand Forks Police Department (122 S. 5th St.) or the Public Safety Center (1220 S. 52nd St.).

There is no fee to participate in the Citizen’s Academy.

Topics:

Topics include - but are not limited to - department structure, patrol operations, special operations, various aspects of criminal investigation, community policing efforts, and an overview of guidelines/policies/laws that guide officers in the decision-making process.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants for the Citizen’s Academy must meet the following criteria:

· Live, work, or attend school in the City of Grand Forks

· Be at least 18 years of age

· Have no felony convictions

· Have no serious misdemeanor convictions within three years of application

*Any requirements may be waived or modified upon review and approval of the Chief of Police

The Grand Forks Police Department reserves the right to deny anyone entrance into the academy for any reason.

Only chosen and notified applicants are able to participate in the program.

Citizen’s Academy participants are not trained or qualified to act as law enforcement officers.
