(Held in conjunction with County primary election)

A city election candidate may begin collecting signatures on a nominating petition
January 1, 2026. (NDCC 40-21-07)

Filing deadline: April 6, 2026 - 4:00 p.m.

Petitions are filed with the Grand Forks City Auditor’s Office/Finance Department, 255 N
4th Street, Grand Forks, ND 58203.

A complete filing must include:
1) Petition/Certificate of nomination (SFN 02704)
2) Statement of Interests (SFN 10172)

Drawing for placement on ballot*: April 8 at 12:00 noon
Location: Griggs Conference Room, 1st Floor, City Hall, 255 N 4th Street

NUMBER OF SIGNATURES REQUIRED ON PETITION:
(Not less than 10% of votes cast for that position in last city-wide election and in no case
shall more than 300 signatures be required) (NDCC 40-21-07)

Council Members: (4-year term)
Ward 2 --------------- 63 signatures
Ward 4 --------------- 124 signatures
Ward 6 --------------- 45 signatures

Municipal Judge (4-year term) : 300 signatures

Park Commissioner, 3 seats (at large, 4-year term): 300 signatures

The candidate's name as it appears on the petition is how it will appear on the ballot.

*Arrangement of names of candidates upon ballot shall be determined by the city auditor by conducting a drawing immediately after the candidate filing deadline. The city auditor shall set the date, time and location for conducting the drawing and shall give advance notice of the drawing to the candidates involved. (NDCC 40-21-08)

*Information on filing Campaign Finance Disclosure Reports will be distributed
separately to candidates along with filing deadlines.
