Where will I work?
Grand Forks PSAP is located at 122 5th St S, where the new Dispatch Center was built in 2011. The dispatch area consists of six individual console positions, where all team members work within their roles as a team.
What does a weekly schedule look like?
The Dispatch Team works a set schedule of 10 and 12 hour shifts, including every other weekend off. As we work in a 24 hour world, this will also include holidays throughout the year. During training, an individual will work both day and night shifts, but once out of training, the Dispatcher Trainee will be assigned a shift with their team.
Are there advancement opportunities?
As technology continues to grow in the emergency service field, there are opportunities to grow as a leader within the department, but also to be a leader professionally and develop your career.
How much time-off am I allowed?
Grand Forks City offers great benefits to employees. As a new employee, you will earn both sick and vacation starting on day one, which will be accrual based on time employed. Time off requests are approved through an internal department process based off seniority, workload, and staffing/operational needs.
Is there training after I am hired?
All Dispatch Trainees complete an in-house training programing which is progressive in nature; allowing an individual to learn the skills and be able to apply then during call-taking and dispatching. The training includes both classroom and hands-on training, where a Trainer is always there to guide a new Dispatcher Trainee. Some certifications are required, which are obtainable in-house.
Are there uniforms? If so, am I reimbursed for them?
Grand Forks PSAP has a dress code that allows employees to work comfortably, yet project a positive professional image while at work or when otherwise representing PSAP. Work attire should complement an environment that reflects an efficient, orderly, and professional operation.
