Who is Dana:
Dana Sande was born and raised in Grand Forks, ND, graduating from Grand Forks Central High School in 1991 and subsequently from UND with a degree in mathematics and minors in statistics and economics. After a brief stint as a manager for JC Penney, Sande returned to UND and earned an MBA with an emphasis in economics and finance.
During the early 2000’s, Dana was a Registered Representative for Pruco Securities/Prudential Financial, selling insurance and investments. He was later the Vice President of Business Development for Atlas Business Solutions (ABS), a Fortune 400 software company in Fargo, ND. At ABS he developed and implemented sales and marketing strategies, was responsible for the training and development of the sales force, and planned and directed sales activities.
Sande joined the UND Aerospace Foundation in 2005. He was hired to identify sales opportunities and acquire software projects and clients. He developed a strong software business, acquiring development contracts from partners such as Cessna, Cirrus, and CAE. Sande was promoted to Vice President in 2008 and has continued selling custom software systems. He lead UND into the Unmanned Aircraft System curriculum development arena by partnering with Crew Training International to develop the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper software training systems used by the United States Air Force at Creech and Holloman Air Force bases.
Dana is also responsible for sales and the management of the business side of international flight training provided by UND Aerospace, working directly with airline management. Sande also evaluates and is involved with new business opportunities, including air traffic control training, unmanned aircraft training, flight training, and software development opportunities in Grand Forks and around the world.
In 2010 Dana was elected to the Grand Forks City Council, representing Ward 6, and subsequently as Council President in 2014 in which role he has served ever since. He is heavily involved in Grand Forks policy having acted as Chair of the Finance and Development Committee, Chair of the Growth Fund Committee, President of the Jobs Development Authority, Economic Development Corporation Director, and a Director on the Grand Forks Board of Health. He also volunteers for the United Way and spent several years working as a board member for the Greater Grand Forks Convention and Visitors Bureau.
When not working for the city or Aerospace, Sande enjoys working on home renovations with his wife of 22 years, Meggen, and spending time with his nineteen-year-old twins, Clarkson and Stella.
