In April of 1997 the City of Grand Forks was flooded by the Red River of the North. Grand Forks received help from all over the country during the clean up and since that time Grand Forks has not only recovered, it has flourished. Grand Forks would like to give back by helping other communities as they deal with flooding. On this page you will find information regarding the Flood of ’97 and what the City of Grand Forks did in its recovery.

Recovery Resource Book

This Recovery Resource Book gives a list of lessons learned and important contacts during our flood recovery. Each disaster and recovery is unique but the City of Grand Forks hopes that the lessons we learned will help other communities in the future.

In April of 2007 the City of Grand Forks planned a number of events to mark the 10-year anniversary of the “Flood of the Century” in Grand Forks. City officials said it was a perfect opportunity to provide a progress report to the nation and to reflect on the recovery Grand Forks has made in the past decade.
